Communication is the most essential part of the human nature. It refers to the passing of information from one person to another. No meaningful understanding prevailed without the communication. in Oder to complete the communication process. it is not necessary to believe or agree with the message. it is sufficient to understand only. 

Therefore, communication acts as basis of co-ordination and it helps in smooth working of enterprises. it also increases managerial efficiency and establishes effective leadership.

Meaning and Definitions of Communication:

Communication is a process to communicate with others successfully. the word communication is derived from Latin word 'communis' which means common. Hence, communication means sharing of ideas in common.so, communication is a social process and comprises of countless way in which persons keep in touch with each other.

It is also means to impart, participate, to share or make it common. it is the key to all human actions. any gesture visible to someone's eyes or audible in someone's ears can be called communication.

  • According to Keith Davis, "Communication is the process of passing information and understanding from one person to another".
  • According to Carl Howland: Communication is the process by which an individual transmits stimuli to modify the behaviour of the other individuals.
  • According to Millet: "The underlying aim of communication is the meeting of minds on common issue.
  • According to Oxford Dictionary: :Communication is transferring or conveying of meaning'
  • According to Berlo: "Communication as S-R model or sender-receiver model, where sender stands for stimulus and receiver stand for response. this was later extended to S-M-C-R Model that stands for sender-message-channel-receiver. it is the basic communication process. Thus, the above definitions make it clear that"the essence of communication is understanding information not transmitting information."

Nature of Communication

The nature of communication represents the important role inside personal existence, family member's existence, cultural existence, company existence and many others. the nature of communication is discussed below.
  • Communication has  both the elements of science and art.
  • communication can be pervaded in every area of human existence.
  • In the process of communication, every related communication is affected.
  • in modern days, communication medium such as e-mail, video conference, fax,etc ate frequently used.all these medium involved the communication.
  • Communication comes about by means of bringing a selected method e.g.media. this media could be used composed of verbal and non verbal or may be a mixture of spoken (verbal) and non-verbal data.
  • Communication is the sum of all things that one person does, when he wants to create an understanding in the mind of another.
  • It involves a systematic and continuous process of speaking , listening and understanding.
  • Communication is the process, to be done through the words, letters, symbols, or message. it is a way by which the members of an organisation share their meanings, ideas and understanding with each other.
